The Battle of Faith

The Battle of Faith

"So faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God". Rom. 10:17.

"If you fight the battle of faith with all your strength, you will win" (Testimonies, vol. 5, p. 513). What does the battle of faith consist of? Paul speaks about it: "Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold of eternal life" (1 Tim. 6:12).

If you fight the battle of faith with all your energies, you will have no strength left for anything else.

If it is true that "every failure of the children of God is due to a lack of faith" (Patriarchs and Prophets, p. 712), then where should we concentrate our effort and attention? Although it may seem strange, not on faith itself, but on the object of faith, on the source of faith, namely, Jesus. That is why it is so important that we dedicate time each day to know Jesus.

"Without moments of communication, of communion, there will be no faith or trust. The best definition of faith is trust in God". (Gospel Workers, p. 273.) One cannot develop trust in someone without dedicating time to be with that person. No one can become familiar with another without spending time to communicate with them.

Social relationships cannot be maintained without communication, just as we cannot live physically without food. My father used to tell the story of a man who trained his horse to live without eating. It was more economical that way. But unfortunately, just when the horse had learned to live without eating, it died.

If I stop feeding myself, I can survive for a certain time by relying on what I had eaten before. I can live for a few more days by tapping into the stored fat in my body. But sooner or later I will weaken, and then my end will come.

A person who begins the Christian life and is born to spiritual life can subsist for a short period without dedicating time to feed the soul; but sooner or later their spiritual life will fade away. Only through a permanent feeding based on the Bread of Life and the consumption of the Water of Life can our spiritual life be strong and healthy.
